THE WINE SOCIETY YOUNG WINEMAKER OF THE YEAR
SOMMELIERS CHOICE AWARD 2009 - JEN PFEIFFER, PFEIFFER WINES
Jen Pfeiffer, winemaker for her small, family owned, Rutherglen winery, Pfeiffer Wines, has won The Wine Society Young Winemaker of the Year Sommeliers Choice Award. The Awards dinner was held at The Westin Grand Ballroom in Sydney on Friday 20th November 2009. Jen was awarded the title from a field of 10 finalists, selected from a pool of the very finest young winemakers from across Australia and New Zealand.
The prestigious Sommeliers Choice Award is decided by sommeliers
from some of Australia’s most iconic fine-dining restaurants and is
awarded to the winemaker whose wines amass the greatest number of
sommelier votes.
The two outstanding wines which captured the sommeliers attention were
the Pfeiffer 2008 Shiraz ($21) and the Pfeiffer 2006 Christopher’s VP
($24.50).
The Wine Society Young Winemaker of the Year awards encourages and
recognises excellence in the young winemakers of Australia and New
Zealand. In just 9 years, the event has become nationally regarded as
recognising the most significant achievements of the young winemakers
of Australia and New Zealand, providing them with a platform to be
rewarded and acknowledged on a professional level.
The Wine Society Young Winemaker of the Year Sommeliers Choice Award
tops off an amazing year for the 30 year old, who has also taken out
trophies for Best Wine of Show at the Riverland Wine Show, Best
Victorian White Wine at the Ballarat Wine Show and Best Dessert Wine at
the Brisbane Fine Wine Show.
