Seasonal Food Foray

The Seasonal Food Foray provides you with a unique food and wine experience within the beautiful Rutherglen region.

In what some would describe as a personalised Rutherglen gourmet tour, participants of The Seasonal Food Foray start their journey at The Pickled Sisters Café, where they pick up their own ‘tiffin boxes’ packed with seasonal and regional produce.   From there you make your way to Chambers Rosewood Wines, Pfeiffer Wines, and finally Andrew Buller Wines, enjoying an entree sized meal at each winery.

The four dishes are matched to a glass of specially selected wine from each of the award winning wineries - be sure to leave time for a wine tasting at each cellar door!

Perfect to drive, or why not hop on a bike and combine with a leisurely cycle along the Wahgunyah to Rutherglen stretch of the rail trail.

Cost: $100 per person for four entree size meals and four glasses of wine at four lovely Rutherglen locations.

Enquiries and bookings can be directed to The Pickled Sisters Café on 02 6033 2377 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

  • Planning Your Trip To Rutherglen

Rutherglen is one of the world’s great wine regions, with a deep sense of history.

Originally a gold-mining town in the mid-19th century, Rutherglen has since developed into a major wine producing area, with over 20 wineries all located within a short drive from the town centre.

Many of the great winemaking houses of Rutherglen which sprang up in the gold rush days are still owned and run by the fourth, fifth and sixth generations of the original family owners. These families have made and sold wine from their cellar doors through drought, depression and the great phylloxera plague, for over 150 years.

The most famous of the premium wines of the region are the world renowned and internationally extolled Muscats and Topaques, however Durif and Southern Rhone styles including Marsanne are all highly regarded.  The region produces many award winning wines and the 2012 James Halliday Wine Companion granted no less than eight Rutherglen wineries a prestigious 5 star rating.

The main street of Rutherglen maintains its historical charm, with most of the shop fronts retaining the same look they had a century ago.

Regional produce, acclaimed restaurants, family owned cellar doors, a vast array of adventure and nature-based activities, festivals, quality golf courses and both the mighty Murray River and the states High Country on the doorstep, beckon visitors to explore the region.
